Our Stay on Lake Toxaway at The Greystone Inn

You’ll find The Greystone Inn tucked next to Lake Toxaway in the North Carolina mountains. Just a three hour drive from Atlanta; it’s easy to get to and a relaxing retreat year round. Caroline and Charlie‘s spring break is very early and we knew we wanted to do something fairly close by to us. We decided on the mountains and wanted to try somewhere new other than Highlands. I stumbled upon The Greystone and knew it would be an ideal spot for our family to spend a few days together. The number one question I received on Instagram was “Is the Greystone kid friendly?” Without a doubt, it is totally kid friendly.

From the moment we entered the Inn, the kids were greeted with cheerful smiles from the staff and a white squirrel stuffed animal. You can read more about the white squirrels around Lake Toxaway and Brevard here . Each meal came with a kids menu with a variety of options like fairy bread, burgers, grilled cheese, and veggies. Even a kids cheese board, which were Caroline and Charlie’s favorite!

Turndown service was always earlier with chocolate for all of us and cashmere hot water bottles to keep our feet warm. We decided to do a two bedroom/two bathroom suite, so we all could get a good night sleep. Obviously, we stayed during the off season, so our activities with the kids were not as abundant if we went in the summer. We still were close to hiking/waterfalls , Brevard with it’s variety of shops/restaurants and activities to do at the Greystone. After spending the morning hiking and after a leisurely lunch, the kids enjoyed playing outside at the Greystone with their squirrels. I’m telling you these squirrels made the trip! They also enjoyed fishing with Troster. One of the afternoons during our stay it was raining, so Caroline and Charlie had a good time in the study/game room playing board games/doing puzzles.
The highlight of the trip for all of us was the bonfire on our last night. We had an easy dinner at the Mansion Bar and then made our way to our fire pit. A fire right by the lake, with s’mores and freshly steamed hot chocolate with cozy Pendleton blankets; it doesn’t get any better. We could see so many stars and it was a night I‘ll never forget. I have to mention all of the little touches during our stay that made such an impact. The fresh lemon water on our nightstand every night, the cashmere water bottles at the end of our bed, a little candy basket for the kids to grab a treat each time we left the property; it made our stay so special. All of the staff made us feel right at home.
All of our meals were delicious. We loved being able to sit and look out at Lake Toxaway and the kids certainly enjoyed coloring with their coloring pages that the Inn provided. Breakfast every morning was the highlight for me with so many delicious options to chose from; I had a hard time picking just one thing. The most relaxing part of the stay for me was hands down my prenatal massage. One hour to melt all of the aches and tension away. The Spa at the Greystone is small, but it has so many services to offer. They have a sitting area with a drink menu while you wait for your service or for afterwards.

While the Greystone is a perfect getaway for families, it also makes a great escape for a girls trip or with your significant other. I really enjoyed visiting during March because it was peaceful and we had plenty to do as well. I love summers at the lake and in the mountains, but early spring is special too.
